Kepler Lab
3D web experience to explore the Milky Way, with 22 astronomical destinations and curated scientific content.
Problem
Astronomy content is usually in long texts or in simulators that are hard to use. The goal was a visual way, in Portuguese, to explore the Milky Way with reliable information.
Decisions
- Three.js with React to render the 3D scene and keep the interface organized in components.
- Vite and JavaScript for fast builds.
- Scientific content curated from institutional sources.
- Support for reduced motion and high contrast mode from the start.
Stack
- React
- Vite
- Three.js
- JavaScript
Result
App published on Vercel with 22 astronomical destinations, unit tests and accessibility features.
Learnings
Balancing 3D graphics with accessibility and organizing scientific content for non-experts.
How I used AI
Built with Claude Code from a CLAUDE.md holding the project's principles, architecture and commands; AGENTS.md only points to it. Each phase followed a plan under docs/superpowers/plans, executed task by task with TDD. A project skill, /verify, runs tests, build and lint before any change is declared done, and a hook in .claude/settings.json runs the linter after every edit.
